The Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary covers an area of 118km2 and is home to a number of bottlenose dolphins. There are about 40 resident dolphins and up to 400 others have been recorded visiting the area.
Sightings are increasing 6% annually, showing how important dolphin sanctuaries are for the species.
Sanctuaries exist around the globe.
